Have Hunches, Make Sales – Turn a Hunch into a Customer

Following instincts provides benefits for a number of reasons. It can help a person survive a dangerous situation, or uncover something important. Part of instinct is intuition and hunches are the manifestation of intuition. Even in sales a hunches and intuition can be a valuable asset. Hunches are not always accurate but by following them, however each one provides a variety of experiences, whether it is a sale, or just new knowledge. It also can help to teach which hunches to follow and which can be ignored or left for later. Gaining the skill to follow hunches can help to increase sales by providing a way to know when the time might be ripe to contact a previous customer. In this manner, it can be used as a constructive and creative idea to boost potential sales.

Knowing when you get a hunch and what to do

The first thing to knowing when a hunch is present is to be alert and know the feeling that comes with this intuition. The next step is to act promptly. Instinct is both a natural and a learned process. The first kind goes to things that are ingrained, survival is one of those, and the second kind is learned. This instinct comes from knowledge and experience.

By following hunches experience is gained and the salesperson gains a feel for the situations that cause them to be present. For example, experience may tell a sales person that the customer they are currently speaking with is not quite ready to make a sale but may be within the next week. This thought is instinct born from experience and it remains in the back of the sales persons mind. A week later that sales person gets a feeling or hunch that it would be a good time to contact that potential. They do so and a sale is made.

What is a hunch?

A hunch is a strong sense or pull to do something or it could be an idea that pops into the sales person's head telling them to contact someone or do something. Many people believe that hunches are spiritual in nature and there is nothing to state that a hunch is not somehow spiritually connected.

However, the brain like God works in mysterious ways. It can process information at incredible rates and stores everything heard, seen and experienced. With the right frame of mind, one that is one to hunches. The mind can produce the result to a set of criteria at the time it is needed even if it is a month, a year or ten years from the time of the initial information gathering.

No matter what the belief if a hunch is scientific or spiritual or even both the fact remains that hunches can and do help to increase sales from salespeople who take the time to listen to these pulls and follow what they are being directed by it to do.

The important thing is learning how to notice that a hunch is there and learning how to listen more closely to what is being said. This helps to ensure a higher success rate. Things like meditation and keeping the mind clear of cluttering thoughts can provide assistance in knowing when a hunch is there and knowing when to act on that hunch.
